The Inspiration Behind My Songs

Inspiration Is Key To Song Writing

People tell me they love the song lyrics I write.

Some ask about the meaning and inspiration behind my songs. So I thought I’d share some of the inspiration behind a few song favorites. My inspiration comes from my own life experiences, and sometimes just a line someone has spoken, that stays in my head, and pretty soon, I’m singing it in a song.

Cinderella, was writing about my transitioning from L.A. back to the mountains.  The first line “don’t you see you can’t buy me, I’m not for sale”. I’d written down this line after a friend of mine was writing her life story, and it was called “love for sale”

Sea of Cortez, a favorite among many, is about the Baja region of Mexico where I stayed with some friends, but didn’t venture out much because I got sick. So there I was on the shore, and these words came pouring out of me. I have a chance to play in Mexico this year with an old friend that invited me there and am looking forward to returning.

Simple Girl, well that’s me! I think about myself as a simple girl, in a grown up world, with a head full of dreams. I went to L.A. for awhile, wanting to get into the energy of the city with my music, and that was the answer I gave to this guy that asked “who are you, and where did you come from?”
